08. Downie Residence
This project is a major renovation of an old fibro building that was originally designed as a doctor’s clinic in Kununurra. It was constructed out of Jarrah timber as an A-frame structure, and the owners fell in love with the quirky house layout and the views to the red rock escarpment. The design includes new living, kitchen and dining spaces with a large new outdoor entertaining deck to embrace the climate; and is focussed around the pool which provides much needed relief during the monsoon season. The new bathroom is designed around a tropical garden and a big wall of louvres for ventilation.
